We're off to camp!

Summer’s here (despite what any friends and family in Europe may be telling you at the moment!) and with it comes the vexed question of keeping the kids amused.

In the UAE, there’s now a wide range of summer camps to help answer that inevitable query: “What can I DO?” Here, we present a round-up of just some of the activities on offer.

Dubai Holiday Camps, one of the leading holiday camp providers in the UAE, will once again be conducting programs during the summer in Children’s City (Creek Park) and Dubai International Academy (Emirates Hills).

They’re registering register children from 3-12 years of age on a weekly basis - last year over 1,200 kids signed up.

A unique approach to the summer camp idea is offered by the Oriental Yoga Sanctuary, at Umm Suqueim, Al Wasl Rd, Dubai.

It’s offering a 15-day, fun-filled programme to help nurture children and instill in young minds the ability to face any challenges and strengthen their inner personality.

Subjects covered include an introduction to yoga and yogic exercises, balancing techniques, public speaking, personality development, arts, crafts and games.

The program is scheduled to start on 1st July and concludes on the 15th. The sessions last from 10am-1pm, with a five-hour programme on Friday mornings. Snacks & drinks will be provided.

Do you want your child to get a head start and sharpen their skills this summer? kidsFIRST medical center offers fun, multi-sensory camps for children ages 4-9 for pre-writing, printing, cursive and reading skills.

If your child is struggling in school and is experiencing frustration with handwriting or reading assignments, having behavioral challenges associated with school work, poor eye-hand coordination, difficulty getting ideas down on paper, and/or poor comprehension, these camps may help.

Dhs125 for each class and taking place throughout July and August.

If music rather than words is your child’s passion, the camp being run this month by The Music Institute, located in Dubai Knowledge Village, may be the one for you.

This two-hour, month-long camp in July offers singing, instrument-playing and music appreciation. There’s also a camp covering the visual arts and instrument-making.

UAEasy.com pictureIf you’re looking for something different for your children to do this summer, try My Gym Summer Camp - a half day of gymnastics, arts, crafts, science, story time, music and more.

This camp, from July 22 to September 1, is geared for children ages 3 to 8. Children are divided into age appropriate groups for all activities. Fees start from Dhs385 for three days a week.

If you’d like your child to enjoy playing and discovering, and making new friends in a safe and friendly environment, try Peekaboo - a creative play center offering fun and creative activities for children aged 0 to 7.

Peekaboo offers a safe and secure environment under the careful supervision of trained, professional staff who have all been CPR trained. All children entering Peekaboo’s gated premises will be tagged with a security wristband for additional safety and Peekaboo has a special summer day camp during July and August.

In conjunction with a leading Youth Theatre in England, Streetwise is repeating last year’s highly successful Theatre classes to be held in Dubai during the second and third weeks of July. The location is to be on the campus of Jumeirah College. The classes will run for five days, from 8th - 12th July and from 15th to 19th July. Each day, from 9.30am to 3pm, students will work in the fields of Acting, Music and Choreography culminating in a Gala performance at the Centrepoint Theatre, DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates on the Thursday evening at the end of each week.

Music Summer Camps: These fun, new music camps are especially designed for young musicians ages 3-8 years. Although the emphasis is on music, each session will integrate and utilize all of the creative arts and music, dance, drama, visual art and literature. Children will participate in singing, listening to orchestral music, playing percussion instruments, constructing instruments and developing their unique self expression through rhythmic and creative movement. Join any week as we focus on different composers, learning about their works and listening to their compositions. Each camp concludes with a performance on the last day.
