Up to 250 people are expected to gather at the Gulf Ventures desert camp in Al Awir on 2nd February and drum throughout the night in a unique event, which will start at midnight and go through until sunrise the next day.
The “Drumathon” is part of the “Tickled Pink” series which Julie Amer from Mountain High is championing to support the Beat Cancer theme which will include tandem skydives, a special Tickled Pink Valentine’s night at the Barasti (14th Feb ) and a Tickled Pink Aerobathon at the Mina Seyahi (17th Feb) .
Drumathon organiser Julie Ann Odell, founder and leader of Dubai Drums, says: “Having built up a huge group of drumming enthusiasts in Dubai, I thought the perfect way to support the cause from the drumming community side would be to literally beat home the message that cancer can be beaten, with everyone unified in rhythm speaking the same language.
“This will be a fantastic event, the first gathering of its kind in the Middle East, where people of all ages and abilities can come together in a spirit of unity and beat out a message of hope, love and togetherness.”
The Drumathon will take place immediately after Dubai Drums next Full Moon Desert Drumming, a regular and popular drumming event where experienced drummers and new enthusiasts meet to drum together in the light of the full moon.
All proceeds from the event will go to support the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Emirates.
“The event is open to everyone” said Julie Ann, “and we are inviting corporations to send representatives from their staff to aid the cause as we already have a large number of individuals who have pledged their support and intend to drum all night.
“Of course, the ‘die-hard’ drummers will need refreshments and moral support, so we also encourage supporters to come along and help. You don’t need experience for the Drumathon because everyone’s got rhythm, but you do need energy and commitment. There will be plenty of space available to anyone who supports the Dhs 125 donation for the cause.”
