Bling-bling in the New Year

By Jo Finzi

UAEasy.com pictureBet you’ve all used the phrase bling-bling, but do you really know what it is?

By definition, it’s a noun from hip-hop slang, imitative of the sound of clinking jewellery or the blinking and shimmering of reflected light.

To be strictly accurate, the word is a reduplicative noun, like its shiny chum razzle-dazzle. Reduplicatives always come in pairs, but they’re not some hocus-pocus.

If you’re posh (not spice) you may be guilty of hoity-toity or just plain stuck up behaviour.

If you’re bored you can always phone a friend for a chit-chat, before you hurry-scurry off to meet for a coffee.

So this coming year, don’t be wishy-washy and don’t shilly-shally. Instead, head helter-skelter for all your goals and have a super-duper 2007.
