This month, we asked local Feng Shui consultant, Kerri Dane, to point us in the right direction with some Feng Shui tips for families, especially for mothers, just in time for mother’s day.
“There are many different theories available to a Feng Shui consultant.” Kerri (pictured) told us “One of the most popular and enjoyable to work with is the 8 Aspirations Theory.”
So here’s Kerri’s description of how this can help you reorganise your home for family harmony.
Going southwest
The 8 Aspirations Theory formula states that each compass direction corresponds to a particular element and colour - and a specific person. A consultant can determine what’s happening in your home, based upon how these areas are utilised or missing.
The Southwest sector represents earth and the matriarch of the home. In Feng Shui this is considered to be the second most important area of a home.
The first is Northwest, represented by metal and the patriarch of the household. Others include the East - associated with the eldest son, the Southeast - belonging to the oldest daughter and both these sectors belong to the wood element.
The South is the location of the middle daughter, this time represented by the element of fire. West is the youngest daughter and is linked with the metal element, whilst the North is your middle son and the element of water.
Lastly, the Northeast is represented by the youngest son and associated with earth. This month we’re going to concentrate on mothers, and the Southwest.
Directional changes
To overcome this problem, you should try and visually extend this area of your house. This can be done by placing garden lights or mirrors in the Southwest corner. Other options are to place two large rocks in the corner, with the double happiness symbol painted on them in red (to symbolise unity) or to tie a red string around the two rocks to activated their inherent energies.
Perhaps you have a toilet in this area or another “affliction” such as a kitchen or storeroom. This could be the cause of a lull in your love life in your relationship. An excellent “cure” for a toilet in the Southwest is to place two wide hollow bamboo stems with red thread to activate their essence.
The Southwest is also associated with the stomach region. Afflictions in this area of your home can create problems from gynecological problems to simple food poisoning. Therefore, try and avoid having large amounts of wood or plants in this area as this destroys the energy here and creates exhaustion in women and enhances difficulties in all relationships.
Instead, enhance the Southwest sector with beautiful earthen elements such as porcelain vases, marble statues, and pictures of mountains. The southwest is of earth element and therefore the fire element is an excellent strengthener. Try and keep the Southwest well lit with lamps, candles, incense and crystal chandeliers, you can also accessorise with red or earthen colours and a smattering of metallic colours such as gold, silver, pewter and white.
Always remember when enhancing or creating your Southwest corner of your home that balance is a vital part in the practice of Feng Shui and therefore never overdo it.
