The stones for the Zodiac sign of Aquarius are amethyst, aquamarine, falcon-eye, jade, lapis, onyx, sapphire, turquoise and blue topaz.

This time I have selected jade. The colour of jade is usually solid green to translucent. Jade of more yellow colour is less common.

To the ancient Chinese jade was called the stone of health, wealth and longevity. The ancient Aztecs used jade for their burial ceremonies. This crystal was also known to the ancient societies of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, and especially to the Pre-Columbian American cultures of the North American Indians, Mayans and Incans.

When we talk of jade nowadays we are actually talking about two different stones, jadeite and nephrite. For centuries, these stones were thought to be the same, but with the advent of crystallography scientists discovered that, though they both contained silica in their chemical compositions, nephrite also contained magnesium while jadeite contained aluminium.

People refer to both of them as jade but geologists, mineralogists and jewellers are sure to distinguish between the two stones because jadeite is rarer and hence the more valuable stone.

Jade has gentle energies and very calming properties, so it helps with relaxation and to reduce tension, as well as giving mental peace. To the ancient Chinese it also stood for courage, wisdom, justice, mercy, emotional balance, stamina, love, fidelity, humility, generosity, tolerance of others, peace and harmony. 

Jade heals ailments of the lungs, heart, and thymus, boosts the immune system, cleanses kidneys and blood. Therefore it helps with the detoxification of the body. It can clear ailments of the kidneys and the nervous system. It is good stone to wear during pregnancy and during childbirth, and it also helps with PMS.

Yellow jade: Helps with water retention, varicose veins and hemorrhoids.

Jade makes a good worry stone and is often used in rosaries.

Gifts of jade are tradionally given for the 12th wedding anniversary.
